The BTEC National Diploma is a vocational qualification, equivalent to three 'A' levels and which is accepted as a valid qualification by UCAS into university drama or performance-related courses. Although fundamentally a practical work-related course, extensive coursework assignments together with a variety of projects and activities mean that the Diploma is wholly relevant to anyone wishing to pursue a career in the Performing Arts.
Specifically, the National Diploma aims to provide students with an opportunity to experience at an advanced level, Drama, Dance, Singing, Music and Stagecraft. It aims to encourage students to be responsive to the demands of the Performing Arts industry and provide a basis for further study of the subject at a higher level.
Students might consider the BTEC course if they wish to pursue Drama to a higher level, whether at University and especially at Drama School. It is a rigorously assessed course and students will be required to organise their time appropriately in order that they can read around the subject and research the many different topics covered.
Some Diploma students opt to take one additional 'A' Level such as English, Art or Music to study alongside the BTEC course.
