"No words can describe my complete gratitude to you. You have given me an opportunity to pursue my ambition to become a professional performer and for that I am unbelievably thankful. Without your support I simply could not have trained at Tring Park and would not be able to live my dream."
Musical Theatre Bursary Student 2009
The specialist nature of the vocational courses available at Tring Park are not provided by the State sector meaning that many of the School’s pupils come from families that would not ordinarily have chosen independent education. Demand for a place at the School is extremely high with entry based on a rigorous audition process emphasising artistic talent and potential. Every year many families face the difficult situation of their son or daughter gaining a place at the School based on their artistic ability but then not having the financial means to pay for the high fees associated with such specialist independent education.
The School receives Government funding for a number of assisted places for talented dancers, however applications to gain one of these coveted awards always out-number supply with many talented pupils inevitably disappointed when they narrowly miss out. The aided places provided by the DCSF and LSC do not cover the total fees, therefore the School has to use its own resources to top-up these awards in addition to providing financial assistance to other pupils.
With talent and artistic potential being the only entry criteria, the School and Governors are determined to ensure that finance is not a barrier to entry. Making this conviction a reality, however, becomes more challenging every year. Currently the School re-invests 10% of income into our Scholarship and Bursary programme, but unlike other independent schools we do not have sufficient endowed funds available to assist in every case of financial hardship and so to meet this extraordinary need we must significantly increase fundraising for Scholarship and Bursaries. We invite you to help support our talented pupils.
