Reach4Dance - Community Outreach Projects

Tring Park is committed to giving as many people as possible the opportunity to dance. We run a range of programmes designed to engage and excite people of all ages. Dance is not only a great way to keep fit and make friends, but it also encourages discipline and creative thinking. Dance can also help to increase an individual's self-confidence and help them to explore the world around them through new eyes.

Opportunities for Schools

The Tring Jazz Technique Awards

This is a programme developed by a member of Tring's jazz faculty, Ruth Armstrong, for Key Stage 2 pupils, which teaches the basics of jazz technique. Children can progress through the three levels of the Awards giving every child a real sense of achievement. They need no prior knowledge or experience of dance to participate. Weekly sessions are run by one of our teachers on your school premises and can work around your weekly timetable. The sessions are hugely enjoyable for the pupils and we hope to inspire them to dance outside of the sessions. Many teachers also enjoy participating in these sessions. At the end of the term the pupils are assessed and all receive a certificate of their achievement. If any pupils show an outstanding natural ability they are invited, through their school, to become a Community Scholar at Tring Park and receive free dance classes each week.

Tring Park is currently running the Awards at a number of partner schools very successfully, but we are always interested to hear from any school who may be interested in joining the programme. We are currently able to provide this programme free of charge as it is subsidised by the DFE.

The Tring Contemporary Awards

This programme was piloted last year and has been incredibly successful at introducing pupils to contemporary dance and new ways of expressing themselves. Like the jazz technique awards this programme is run on a weekly basis each term and has been specifically designed by Tim Blowfield, a member of our contemporary faculty, for Years 5&6. Contemporary Dance is a great way for pupils to learn how to express themselves through dance, gain a greater understanding of their physicality and to understand the discipline required to be a dancer. Pupils thoroughly enjoyed their sessions last year and we are hoping to expand these further this year, with a greater number of schools becoming involved. As with the Tring Technique Awards the children are assessed at the end of term and they all receive a certificate of their achievement. If any pupils show an outstanding natural ability they are invited to become a Community Scholar at Tring Park and receive free dance classes each week.

We would be very interested to hear from any schools that may be interested in participating in this programme. We are currently able to provide this programme free of charge as it is subsidised by the DFE.

Extended learning Projects

These dance projects are designed with the participating school to work alongside and to complement the school's curriculum. We are able to arrange a 3 or 6-week project depending upon the school's own requirements. These projects can help to give pupils a more cohesive understanding of the subjects they are studying. For example: we have created a project based on the Egyptians for one school and a 1940's project for another. We are very flexible and always enjoy working with the schools to give the pupils the best learning experience we can.

We are currently able to provide this programme free of charge as it is subsidised by the DFE.

Performance Workshops

We believe that watching dance can provide children with the inspiration to participate themselves and can also broaden a child's horizons. Our workshops consist of an hour- long performance of different styles of dance from our 6th form students and then a chance for the children to join in during a 20 minute workshop. The feedback from these workshops has been fantastic and we return to many schools year after year. Children enjoy seeing what can be achieved and then having a go for themselves. The content of the workshop varies, depending on the school's facilities and the age of the pupils participating. There is a minimal administration fee for the workshops as this is a subsidised programme. If you are interested in us performing at your school please get in touch.

Open Dress Rehearsals

Tring Park produce a number of fantastically diverse shows each year allowing our own pupils to stretch their talents and horizons to the maximum. We open some of the final rehearsals to schools to come along and watch as this is a great opportunity for pupils to observe a wide range of skills and dance styles that they may not encounter otherwise. There is a small fee for the open dress rehearsals, however all the schools who have attended have found it a very valuable experience.

Opportunities for Individuals

Community Scholars

Tring Park is committed to finding talented young individuals to provide them with the opportunity to build on their talent. We believe that anyone with a passion and talent for dance should be provided with the skills necessary to pursue a career in the industry. Our Community Scholars are provided with free dance classes each week and are advised on the best way to achieve their goals. The scholars can progress into the Tring Park Associates or the main school if they achieve the standards necessary. Our scholars are selected from many of our other programmes including our Tring Jazz and Contemporary Technique Awards.

Reach4Dance is always interested in extending our Community outreach further and would be delighted to discuss any ideas or projects, which you believe we would be interested in supporting.

Reach4Dance also offers a number of day courses throughout the year and a specific programme designed for boys. Please see our Days of Dance webpage for further information or contact Catie Entwistle at catie.entwistle@tringpark.com or Tel. 01442 821657.
