The Management Team

Stefan Anderson, Principal, is a graduate of Carleton University, Ottawa, the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto, the Royal College of Music, London, and Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He was appointed Assistant Director of Music and Organist at Wellington College in 1983, and later Director of Music at the King's School, Canterbury (1995-2002). He was appointed Principal at Tring Park in September 2002. As a choral conductor, pianist and organist he has performed and recorded extensively in the UK, Europe and North America, including programmes for BBC television and radio, CBC and Radio France.

Anselm Barker, Deputy Principal, is a graduate of Harvard University, USA, New College, Oxford, and an Associate of the Royal College of Music, London. Trained as a pianist, he gave frequent solo and chamber music performances in America and the UK, as well as performing extensively as an accompanist. He worked at Wells Cathedral School and, most recently, Millfield (1995-2010), where he was a Housemaster, Assistant Director of Music and Head of American University Applications. He joined Tring Park in September 2010 as Deputy Principal.

Nick Edwards, Bursar.  Nick Edwards is an experienced Bursar who has joined us from Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Blackburn, a 500 year old HMC school that has recently converted to Free School status under the academies programme.  He also has experience in the private school sector as bursar of a cathedral school, and of a selective state grammar School in Lancaster.  Prior to that he was a regular commission officer in the Corps of Royal Engineers, serving for 30 years and retiring in the rank of lieutenant colonel.  He is married to Catherine, a retired teacher and has two grown up daughters.

Brian Liddle, Director of Academic Studies.  Brian is a graduate of the University of Cambridge, having also studied at Queen’s University Belfast, University of Stirling, University of Sydney, Durham University and the University of Edinburgh. After leaving University he has worked as a rowing coach and teacher of Biology and Psychology. He has worked with St Edmund’s College in Ware and King’s School, Rochester where he was a Head of Science. Brian is also a reservist in the Royal Air Force.

Edward Applewhite, Director of Drama. A graduate of the Guildford School of Acting, Edward worked as an actor before serving as Artistic Director of Wigan Pier Theatre Company (1993-2000). After achieving Qualified Teacher Status he was appointed Head of Drama at De Lisle Catholic Science College, Loughborough in 2001 and moved to Tring Park in 2004. He has a Degree in Theatre Studies and also works as a freelance writer, director and actor.

Edward Hawkins, Head of Sixth Form.  Edward graduated from the University of Reading with a BSc in Physical Geography in 2009. He worked in the IT industry before moving into education. He originally joined the school as a Housemaster and gained an independent PGCE with the University of Buckingham whilst working at the school. He was appointed as Head of Sixth Form in September 2014. More recently Edward has been completing research on pedagogy and learning as part of an MA in Education. He is also an AQA Examiner.  

Donna Hayward, Director of Musical Theatre. Donna Hayward trained at Laine Theatre Arts. Upon graduation she worked continuously and extensively as a professional dancer in both television and theatre in the UK and internationally. She has held the position of Senior Jazz and Tap teacher in vocational schools, Tring Park and Elmhurst and was appointed Director of the Musical Theatre Course in 2005. Donna was a major Examiner for the ISTD from 1996-2006, and a founder member of the New Development Group. She has lectured in Denmark, taught in the United States for a Musical Theatre school in Baltimore, and furthered her studies of Jazz and American Tap in New York. Whilst at Tring Park she has choreographed numerous productions including; 'The Wild Party', 'Hot Mikado', 'I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change' and 'Copacabana'.

Elizabeth Norriss, Director of Music, studied Music at the University of Sheffield and graduated with a BMus in 1994. She graduated as a teacher from the University of Wales in 2000. Prior to her appointment at Tring Park (September 2003), she was Head of Music at St David's Catholic College, Cardiff. She is a singer, pianist, flautist and saxophonist and has performed with a number of choirs and orchestras across Europe, North America and South Africa.

Rachel Rist, Director of Dance, has a Masters Degree in Performing Arts and has taught widely in Italy, Canada and the USA. She has published two books and regularly writes for many dance publications around the world. She was President of the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science 2003-2005, and currently Chair of the Education Committee and served on the Executive Committee of the Royal Academy of Dance. In addition to acting as external examiner and lecturing widely she has also frequently been an expert witness on legal issues in dance training.

Harmesh Gharu, Head of Commercial Music.  Harmesh is a singer, pianist, clarinetist and saxophonist. He studied Music at Kingston University London and graduated with a BMus (Hons) in 2005. He graduated with a PGCE (QTS) in Secondary Music from the University of Reading in 2008. In 2012 he graduated with a Masters degree in Education (Teaching and Learning) from the University of Reading. Harmesh joined Tring Park School in 2009 and was appointed Head of the Commercial Music course in 2012. 

Elizabeth Odell, Head of Theatre Arts.  Elizabeth Odell trained at The Arts Educational School, where she graduated gaining her ISTD Associate in Tap and her VCM Associate in Drama. She then gained a place at the prestigious Bristol Old Vic Theatre School graduating with a BA in Stage Management and Technical Theatre. She also taught in dance schools in and around Bristol and completed her ISTD Associate in Modern. Elizabeth also achieved qualified teacher status with the University of Gloucester.  Elizabeth has directed and choreographed many productions including ‘Seussical’, ‘Bugsy Malone’, ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’, ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ and ‘The Boyfriend’.  Elizabeth joined the faculty at Tring Park in September 2004. In 2008 she was promoted to Head of Theatre Arts. In 2012 she also took on the role of Head of Planning for the School.

Louisa Shaw, Head of Performance Foundation.  Louisa Shaw came to teach at Tring Park directly from the original West End production of “Mary Poppins” in which she created the role of “Katie Nanna”. Prior to this Louisa spent  twenty years as a professional performer playing principal roles in musicals such as 'Cats', 'Les Miserables', 'Martin Guerre', 'Witches of Eastwick' and 'Fame'. She can be heard on several cast albums including 'Mary Poppins', 'Doctor Doolitle', 'Martin Guerre' and 'Les Miserables 10th and 25th Anniversary Concerts'. Since joining the teaching faculty at Tring Park, Louisa has moved from Performance and Repertoire teacher to Head of the Performance Foundation Course. During her time at Tring Park Louisa has been called upon to run external musical theatre workshops for theatre education programmes, performing arts teachers and most recently a women’s prison.

Suzanne Kennedy, Head of Learning Support. Prior to joining Tring Park in January 2013, Suzanne was Senior Deputy Headteacher at Aylesbury Grammar School for 12 years, where she was Curriculum Deputy, Head of Years 10 and 11, SENCO and the Designated Person for Child Protection. She has over 30 years’ experience in a variety of comprehensive and selective schools, teaching languages, English, History, Classics and RE. Her qualifications include a BA (Hons) in French & Spanish, the PGCE, an MA in Modern Languages, the NPQH, a Postgraduate Certificate in SpLD (Dyslexia) and the National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators (SENCOs).

Miriam Juviler, Marketing Director. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music where she gained her teaching Licentiateship she spent her early career as a performing musician and teacher before moving into arts management. She was the Director of South East Music Schemes and was part of the audition panel for both their Young Musicians Platform and Awards for Advanced Study.  In 1997 she joined the Purcell School as their first Concerts Manager and grew their concert portfolio steadily until she left when they were performing more than 100 concerts per year.. She joined Tring Park in January 2008 and her first responsibility was to oversee the rebrand from Arts Educational School to Tring Park. Miriam was awarded an Associateship of the Royal Academy of Music for services to the classical music industry and holds a Certificate with the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
