Contemporary Day of Dance is for dancers aged 10 – 18 who wish to enhance their contemporary dance skills.
Contemporary Day of Dance provides an opportunity for participants to explore their technique, develop choreographic skills, and create new work with our highly skilled teachers. Please see below for a taster of what the classes will entail:
Dancers will learn a lyrical contemporary solo alongside creative tasks. Enabling dancers to take ownership of the movement and explore their own artistry. Emphasis in this session is on individuality, building confidence and exploration.
The Devising Work session will offer participants the opportunity to create and devise solo work. Creating through guided improvisation and creative tasks, and a use of a prop. Dancers will need either tennis ball/orange/apple/juggling ball (something they can hold in a sphere shape) in order to build and work towards creating with the stimulus and realising how many ways a solo can develop, with the use of focus & changing the placement of the prop. Dancers will have the opportunity to share their work 1 or 2 at a time on the screen.

The technique class will explore the spiraling, curving, tilting and arching actions of the spine whether standing or closer to the floor. There will be opportunity to swing, rebound, release and follow momentum. We will aspire to work with an expansive approach within the contained spaces we are moving in.
Classes will be between 9.30 - 1.30 and there will be 3.5 hours of classes in total. Class sizes will be limited to allow for interaction and feedback - a real learning experience!
