Candidates who are successful at the screening stage will receive a link to complete the online audition application. Ideally, prospective candidates should have had a minimum of one year of classical ballet training.

Tring Park School for the Performing Arts is one of the nine specialist Music and Dance Schools in the UK.

Classical ballet is the primary focus of the Junior dance course. Pupils also study modern dance, tap dance and have additional classes in pointe work. There are also boys-only classes and Pilates, while pupils in the Third Form (Year 9) start to learn contemporary dance.

Audition Information

Audition Schedule

  1. Ballet class.
  2. Modern class.
  3. Stretch assessment.
  4. A prepared dance solo of up to one-minute duration, in any style, ready to play from a smartphone/iPod or USB accompaniment. We are happy to see candidates’ own choreography for this solo. Due to the number of candidates auditioning, solos that go on longer than one minute may be stopped which can cause distress to a child, so please ensure that the solos do not overrun.
  5. Physio screening.

Educational Test

All candidates will sit an academic assessment. The academic part of the audition involves a computerised verbal and non-verbal reasoning test followed by a 10-minute writing test from which we can identify very quickly if a candidate has difficulties with handwriting speed, spelling or grammar.

Clothing and Equipment

All candidates should arrive ready for the ballet class.

  • Girls – wear plain leotard, pink ballet tights, and usual ballet shoes. For the modern section please bring jazz shoes or jazz trainers and a pair of jazz pants if available. Hair should be neat and off the face.
  • Boys – wear a unitard with socks and usual ballet shoes or tights, leotard and usual ballet shoes. For the modern section please bring jazz shoes or jazz trainers and a pair of jazz pants if available.

Apply

All candidates are required to attend an entrance audition for the school. These are held in the autumn and Spring Term each year. Suitability for a place is determined on talent and potential shown at the time of audition.

Final auditions take place in February or March of each year and successful candidates are offered places to start in the following September.
