Audition Information

Audition Schedule

  1. Jazz class
  2. Group vocal warm up
  3. Songs and monologue – two musical theatre songs to be performed from memory with piano accompaniment which must be no more than 32 bars in length. They must be contrasting in style and tempo, and, demonstrate the candidates flexibility and dexterity of vocal strength, range and characterisation. Candidates should supply the sheet music for accompaniment in the required key. Pre-recorded accompaniment will only be accepted in extreme circumstances and is not encouraged. Candidates should perform their strongest song first (second song at the discretion of the panel). A monologue of no more than two minutes from a published play which demonstrates the candidate’s personal strengths.
  4. Interviews (at the discretion of the panel) – during the audition candidates may be interviewed with specific regard to relevant experience, aspirations, career directional choices and personal qualities/skills.
  5. Academic assessment – entry to the school is largely based on audition however, all candidates will sit an academic assessment. The academic part of the audition involves a computerised verbal and non-verbal reasoning test followed by a 10-minute writing test from which we can identify very quickly if a pupil has difficulties with handwriting speed, spelling or grammar.

 

Clothing and Equipment

  • Regular clothes to be worn for the songs and monologue part of the audition.
  • Dancewear to be worn for the jazz class with either jazz shoes or jazz trainers.

Apply

All candidates are required to attend an entrance audition for the school. These are held in the autumn and Spring Term each year. Suitability for a place is determined on talent and potential shown at the time of audition.

Final auditions take place in February or March of each year and successful candidates are offered places to start in the following September.
