Performance Foundation offers the opportunity to begin to focus on future course pathways whilst maintaining a strong core skills training in Acting, Singing, Music and Dance.

This course prepares pupils for Sixth Form vocational training on either the Acting Course, the Musical Theatre Course or the Commercial Music Course at the school.

Performance Foundation Junior (Lower School)

Audition Schedule

  1. Modern dance class.
  2. A song and drama piece – perform your strongest skill first. A song of no more than two minutes duration to be sung from memory. Choose a song appropriate to both your age and vocal range so that an accurate assessment of ability can be made, this can be from any relevant genre. Candidates are asked to supply the sheet music in the required key or bring a smartphone/iPod or CD for accompaniment. The drama piece must be no more than two minutes duration to be given from memory.
  3. Academic assessment. All candidates will sit an academic assessment. The academic part of the audition involves a computerised verbal and non-verbal reasoning test followed by a 10-minute writing test from which we can identify very quickly if a candidate has difficulties with handwriting speed, spelling or grammar.

 

Clothing and Equipment

  • All candidates should arrive ready for the modern dance class. Bring jazz shoes or jazz trainers and a pair of jazz pants if available.
  • Candidates with long hair should put up their hair before arrival.
  • Wear comfortable clothes.

Performance Foundation (Middle School)

Audition Schedule

  1. Jazz dance class.
  2. A drama piece which demonstrates the candidate’s personal strengths, to be given from memory. Maximum 2 minutes.
  3. A song – musical theatre or contemporary pop song lasting no longer than 2 minutes to be sung from memory. Candidates are asked to supply the sheet music for accompaniment in the correct key or a smartphone ready to play.
  4. Academic assessment. All candidates will sit an academic assessment. The academic part of the audition involves a computerised verbal and non-verbal reasoning test followed by a 10-minute writing test from which we can identify very quickly if a candidate has difficulties with handwriting speed, spelling or grammar.

Apply

All candidates are required to attend an entrance audition for the school. These are held in the autumn and Spring Term each year. Suitability for a place is determined on talent and potential shown at the time of audition.

Final auditions take place in February or March of each year and successful candidates are offered places to start in the following September.
