Chinese New Year Celebrations
The Chinese New Year 2016 is fast approaching, commencing on Monday 8 February 2016. Grace Chan has provided us with an excellent summary of this colourful celebration as well as some advice on celebrating the Year of the Monkey.
"Chinese New Year is a very important traditional festival in China. It is a festival to celebrate the beginning of the year. The celebration usually lasts for 15 days until the middle of the month. Unlike the normal new year, Chinese New Year is based on a traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar. A lunar month is around 2 days shorter than a solar month.
Before the celebration starts, people usually clean their house and put up decorations. This festival is about family reunion so people would visit their families and give out pocket money if they’re married, watch traditional chinese shows, fireworks and plan for the new year.
There are a lot of chinese new year traditional food. Such as, dumplings, spring rolls, rice cakes, rice balls, noodles, and lots more. Chinese eat these when they are having in family reunion dinner or family celebrations."
Happy New Year!
