Senior Dance Course 4th & 5th Form
The 4th and 5th Form Dance Course is designed meet the needs of the aspiring dancer. Alongside rigorous academic studies the Senior Dance Course provides in-depth training in Classical Ballet, Contemporary Dance and Jazz.
During this important time of rapid growth and change for an adolescent dancer, it is important that dancers are nurtured and appropriately challenged with regard to their physical changes and they are supported in this by their highly experienced teachers. Young dancers grow and mature at different rates and it can be a time of rapid development.
Supplementary training in Pas de Deux (by invitation only), Pointe-work, Virtuosity, Solos, Repertoire, Drama, Pilates is also provided, along with the opportunity to pursue syllabus examinations in Ballet (RAD & Cecchetti), Modern (ISTD) and Tap (ISTD).
The Young Dancers Show performances are at the end of the summer term and are an opportunity to showcase the technical and artistic skills developed during the year. The performances take place in the Markova Theatre and at a large professional theatre. During the year there are also other less formal performance opportunities for the dancers.
Our pupils are formally assessed twice a year in the three core subjects of Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz. After the assessment each dancer is given one-to-one personal feedback from their teacher provide guidance in identifying strengths, areas for improvement and goals.
At the end of the Fifth Form (Year 11) a careful discussion between the School, parents and pupil takes place to select the most appropriate course for the Sixth Form. We would hope that most pupils will have acquired the physical skills and physique that are appropriate to continue on the Senior Dance Course, however, some pupils may prefer to follow either the Musical Theatre, Acting or Commercial Music Course also available at Tring Park.
