Considered by many to be Peter Shaffer’s greatest play first staged at the National Theatre in 1979 and which was subsequently adapted in the multi-award winning film, Amadeus tells the story of jealousy and genius.

Amadeus begins in Vienna in 1825, in the court of the Austrian Emperor Joseph II, Antonio Salieri is the established court composer, a loyal subject and devout catholic who has given himself to God so that he might realise his sole ambition to be a great composer.  This ambition seems inevitable until the arrival of the greatest musical sensation of all time: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.  This seemingly foul-mouthed, graceless immature oaf has that which is beyond Salieri’s envious grasp: Genius.

Written by Peter Shaffer. Directed by Edward Applewhite. This is an amateur production by arrangement with Samuel French. Age restriction 11+ (contains adult themes).
