Our Acting Course students bring Machinal to the Markova Theatre!

Sophie Treadwell was a campaigning journalist in America between the wars. Among her assignments was the sensational murder involving Ruth Snyder, who with her lover, Judd Gray, had murdered her husband and gone to the electric chair. Out of this came Machanal – a powerful expressionist drama about the dependent status of women and the living hell of a loveless marriage.

Machinal successfully premiered on Broadway in 1928 and was first performed in Britain in 1931 under the title “The Life Machine”. Written by Sophie Treadwell. Directed by Jane Verrall.

This is an amateur production by arrangement with Nick Hern Books. Age restriction 12 (contains adult themes).

Each performance will last for around 2 hours which includes an interval.
