The Jewish Festival of Lights and dates back to two centuries before the beginning of Christianity. It will begin in the evening of Sunday 2nd December and ends in the evening of Monday 10th.
The word Hanukkah means rededication and celebrates one of the greatest miracles in Jewish history, with the themes of overcoming oppression and persecution through faith and personal resilience. Our 3rd Form will be exploring this festival in Religious Studies.
Games are often played at Hanukkah. The most common game uses a 'dreidel' and is a popular way of helping children to remember the great miracle. Here are some pictures of the dreidel and making the counters with which to play the game.
