Exploring Hinduism: Rangoli for Holi
Today is Holi; a colourful Hindu spring festival associated with Krishna that celebrates both creation and renewal. Holi is called 'The Festival of Colours', and people take part by smearing each other with paint, and throwing coloured powder and dye around in an atmosphere of great good humour.
Rangoli patterns placed on doorsteps and paths as a sign of welcome, and our First Form have created their own out of coloured sand. Careful planning and then mindful creativity was the order of the day. Mathematical skills were also in use as these designs have to have both rotational and line symmetry too.
