The Play's the Thing
On 10th July, 3rd Form pupils and staff visited Stratford-upon- Avon to see the interactive exhibition 'The Play's The Thing' at the Swan Theatre and to work with directors and actors from the RSC in a workshop at the Clore Learning Centre.
At the Swan Theatre exhibition, the pupils took a magical journey through a century of theatre-making. On display they say stunning costumes and props from the archives as well as a rare copy of Shakespeare's first folio. Pupils had enormous fun at the 'Director's Desk' discovering the inspiration behind critically acclaimed shows. They discovered details of theatre-making through the A-Z of Shakespeare's secrets and stories. Using state-of-the-art gaming technology, pupils were also given the opportunity to play Hamlet and, in the Magic Costume Mirror, tried on costumes for the collection before taking their own photos! Following a picnic lunch, pupils then took part in an RSC led workshop on 'Romeo and Juliet', an enrichment activity following their study of the play in class. All agreed it was an inspirational day and an excellent experience for our own aspiring performers!
