We are looking to appoint an experienced plumber to be part of a friendly, supportive team who are responsible for the maintenance and general works carried out to buildings and grounds at Tring Park School.

Tring Park is one of the country’s leading vocational and academic schools, situated in glorious Hertfordshire countryside, under an hour from London. The School has 350 boarding and day pupils, aged 7 to 19.

About the role

The contract is full-time, all year round, Monday to Friday from 9am – 5.30pm. *Salary dependant on experience. We will be shortlisting on an ongoing basis and may interview/appoint before the closing date, so encourage early applications.

Main Duties

  • Carry out/resolve all plumbing maintenance issues
  • Carry out general maintenance and handyperson tasks at school properties, alongside other team members
  • Carry out non-skilled tasks such as moving and lifting furniture;
  • Car-park direction for events, and other non-skilled jobs that arise on a day-to-day basis.
  • Undertake any reasonable additional duties at the request of the Head of Estate Services, the Business Director and the Principal.
  • Carry out occasional minibus runs (A D1 entitlement on your driving licence will be needed, or be willing to go through the training process to gain a D1).

 

Essential skills and experience required in the following areas:

Plumbing and Maintenance Repairs:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot and repair plumbing systems, including pipes, valves, faucets, toilets and sinks.
  • Address leaks, clogs and other plumbing issues swiftly to minimise disruption to school operations.
  • Replace or repair defective, worn-out or broken components
  • Clear drain blockages.

 

Installation and Upgrades:

  • Install new plumbing systems, fixtures, and appliances as needed.
  • Upgrade outdated plumbing infrastructure to meet safety and efficiency standards.

 

Preventative Maintenance:

  • Conduct routine inspections to identify potential plumbing issues before they escalate.
  • Perform maintenance tasks such as clearing drains, flushing systems, and testing water pressure.
  • Carry out checks on heating pumps for leaks and worn-out belts.

  • Flexible and self-motivated
  • Must hold a current driving licence (D1 entitlement preferable)
  • Must be prepared to work overtime that will include special events that arise, i.e. Founders Day and Bonfire Night, etc. and be called out to attend emergencies as requested by the Head of Estate Services, his authorised representative or other members of staff.
  • Be aware of recent Health & Safety legislation and COSHH regulations
  • Able to organise own programme of daily work, including preparation of parts and materials for ordering
