Pippin is the true story of the eldest son of King Charlemagne the Great, heir to the throne and the Empire; he has everything a young man could possible want, but Pippin wants more. He longs to discover the secret of true happiness and fulfillment and so he begins a journey and personal quest to find his own “corner of the sky.” He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power but ultimately Pippin finds that happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the un-extraordinary moments that happen every day.
As told by a travelling troupe of actors led by the cunning and charming Leading Player, Pippin is both a humorous allegory about growing up and a dark tale of the danger of false appearances and empty promises. An exploration of one man’s journey to find himself, his place and purpose in life, Pippin is a musical about an ordinary man on an extraordinary journey.
With an infectiously unforgettable score from the four-time Grammy winner, three-time Oscar winner and musical theatre giant, Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Children of Eden), and featuring stunning songs including the classics “Magic to Do” and “Corner of the Sky,” Pippin's message is universal and connects with audiences worldwide.
