Our First Form pupils have been celebrating Diwali in Religious Studies lessons today. Religious Studies seeks to help pupils learn about (and from) religion. As a lot of faith is focused on lived experiences, there can be some delightful practical and creative lessons alongside the exploration of deep moral issues.

During the Diwali festival the entire home is decorated, including the paths and steps, with Rangoli patterns as they are a sign of welcome. Emma in First Form did some research – “Diwali is a Hindu festival of light. It celebrates the story of Lord Rama and Sita who returned to their homeland after 14 years of exile. It is called the festival of light because the villages lit a path to guide them home.”
