A unique private prep school experience for children with an interest in the performing arts.

Pupils are taught in a single mixed-age class, following an integrated curriculum. One third of their time is spent in vocational lessons and the remainder in academic lessons. They have a dedicated prep classroom, but they do visit specialist teaching areas for their vocational training and some academic classes such as reading, French, art and ICT.

Pupils are taught vocational subjects in 11 periods a week (50-minute periods) as part of their integrated timetable.

At the end of Prep Three (Year Six), discussion will take place between staff and parents to establish which course pupils should pursue in the Junior School: Junior Dance Course or Performance Foundation Course.

Vocational Curriculum

The Prep Department offers broad training in the performing arts, giving pupils a foundation on which to build as they progress through the School. Emphasis is on establishing a good basic technique in all areas, whilst encouraging a passion for the performing arts.

The Preps have various performance opportunities throughout the year; they all take part in a drama-based performance, which takes place in the summer term.

Pupils will have three music classes per week; taking part in choir, ensemble and general music classes where they learn how to read music and explore different types of music. Prep pupils are included in the Carol Service in December and Founders’ Day in July.

Preps’ dance classes focus on classical ballet, tap and modern dance.

Academic Curriculum

The Prep Department covers all Key Stage 2 National Curriculum subjects, with age-and ability-related differentiation provided as appropriate.

Pupils will study English, science, maths, history, geography, art and design, music, PE, computing, modern foreign languages, religious studies, citizenship and personal, social and health education (PSHE).

‘My daughter is like a different child since she started at Tring, she loves going to school and everything that the school day entails. She had minimal dance experience prior to joining and never had a single ballet lesson but has loved developing her dancing alongside her talent of singing. She is incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to pursue her love of music and performing whilst ensuring she reaches her full potential academically.’

‘Tring from day one has been the most amazing place for my daughters. The prep department is a nurturing classroom and Mrs Deer is the most wonderful and patient teacher you will ever come across! The school as a whole provides an environment to grow in confidence and helps bring out full potential. All the classes, academic and vocational, develop skills that will help not only in the performing arts/dance world but in everyday life.

The shows that the prep department put on at the end of each year are a wonderful and magical experience. The children absolutely love it and have so much fun from rehearsals to back stage to performing.’

‘Our daughter absolutely loves the ethos of the school with her interests in performing arts and we have also been thoroughly impressed with the academic side of the school while allowing children to work at their own pace, but also challenging them to strive to achieve. The friendship groups she has made in a short time are excellent and both the teaching and performing staff are second to none!’

‘My daughter had been desperate to attend a performing arts school, so we looked at a couple and Tring Park really stood out for us. It was a big decision for us as family as we were relocating our lives, so we had to be 100% sure it was the right school. From the moment we stepped foot in the Prep classroom and met Mrs Deer we just knew this was the school for her. When they say it’s more of a family than a school – it really is!! She has been so happy at the school; she loves all the vocational lessons and is thriving with her academics too.’

‘My daughter is so much more confident in her academic learning since joining the Prep department. She genuinely loves going to school everyday!

My older daughter is in 2nd form and adores Tring Park. She is loving both the academic and vocational side of her education. For me as parent I feel very lucky that both of my girls get to go to go to a school where they can not only get a great academic education but also do the singing, dancing and acting they love so much every day!

The shows at Tring are phenomenal and it’s all down to the dedication of both the staff and the children. I really look forward to every production.’

‘I can honestly say that it is the best decision we have made as a family as my daughter has grown so much in confidence and independence in this short time. I genuinely feel like she has blossomed, grown as an individual and absolutely loves going to school every day where she is surrounded by similar, open minded, creatives. The school has created an environment where the children are encouraged to be themselves and to work hard to achieve their dreams!’

Learning Support

At Tring Park School we offer an exciting, challenging and diverse learning experience. We recognise that each pupil has their own individual strengths, talents and needs, and we are dedicated to providing a supportive environment which actively helps and encourages every pupil to achieve their full potential.
