Performance Foundation Course
The Performance Foundation Course is for pupils aged 14 to 16 years.
This course prepares pupils for Sixth Form vocational training on either the Acting, Musical Theatre or Commercial Music Course at the school.
Performance Foundation offers the opportunity to begin to focus on future course pathways whilst maintaining a strong core skills training in acting, singing, music and dance.
Acting classes include contemporary and classical script work, voice, devised work physical theatre and improvisation.
Singing classes include healthy vocal technique, solo and ensemble repertoire classes in musical theatre and commercial music styles and basic music theory.
Commercial music classes incorporate music technology, songwriting, band practice, microphone technique whilst exploring different styles of music and instrumentation.
Dance classes include classical ballet, modern jazz, tap, body conditioning and stretch.
Course Summary
In the autumn term pupils have the option to audition for any of three project choices which are a play, a book musical and a commercial music performance. In the summer term, pupils have the opportunity to participate in one of three projects for Founders’ Day: an acting piece; a musical theatre montage and a commercial music performance.
In the spring term, our focus turns to assessments to consolidate core training and development during which each of the main core skills is formally assessed. Pupils are given verbal and numeric feedback to help identify areas for development alongside acknowledging personal strengths. All performances are also informally assessed in order to help staff signpost recommended future pathways.
Fees & Funding
The school offers scholarships for the Performance Foundation Course. We also offer scholarships for the Musical Theatre, Acting and Commercial Music Courses for when they reach Sixth Form level.
