We are looking to recruit a Head of Learning Support to work within the our Learning Support department.

About the role
Although we are looking for a candidate to start in September 2025, this start date could be later for the right candidate. *The contract is 0.7 – 1 FTE, ideally spread over Monday to Friday (candidates will be considered from part-time (0.7 FTE) up to full-time). Salary £30,289 (0.7FTE) – £43,270 (1 FTE) plus responsibility allowance of £5,923.81 per annum.
Main Duties
- Line manage the staff in the Learning Support department.
- Oversee the allocation of work in the Learning support department.
- Day to day operation of school’s Learning Support policy.
- Coordination of the identification, provision for and monitoring of children with SEN/EAL/G&T.
- Maintaining the school’s Learning Support register and overseeing the records on all pupils with learning difficulties.
- To analyse Midyis, Yellis and ALIS data and audition assessments to identify pupils that may have additional needs
- Liaising with, advising and supporting other teachers across departments as required. In particular, working closely with the Director of Studies, Heads of Year, Exams Officer, medical centre, houseparents and the DSL team.
- Monitor and Tracking progress of pupils with SEN/EAL.
- To communicate with parents of pupils with learning difficulties with regard to pupils’ progress through written reports and attendance at parents’ meetings.
- To provide INSET on a regular basis to all new staff and to the whole school when appropriate.
- Liaising with external agencies.
- To contribute positively, sensitively and harmoniously to pupil achievement.
- Responsibility for the departmental budget.
- To formulate Learning Support timetable and submit timetable requests to the Director of Studies at appropriate times.
- To ensure that exam access arrangements for pupils are in place and paperwork for these is prepared.
- To support departmental staff, including overseeing the writing of IEPs by support staff and working in the classroom to support staff where necessary.
- Responsibility for departmental handbook.
- To co-ordinate the recording of lessons and information necessary to bill parents and organisation for our services.
- To hold departmental meetings and to attend other departmental meetings, pupil progress meetings and DSL meetings as required. To attend in-service training and conferences regularly to keep up-to-date with current training methods.
- To be aware of deadlines and organise the department to meet them.
- Complete, record and monitor correspondence and administration of the department in conjunction with LS staff.
- To carry out professional duties in such a way as to promote harmonious relationships with and between all staff and pupils.
- To undertake any reasonable additional duties at the request of the Principal.
Person Specification
Essential
- Educated to degree level with teaching qualification or equivalent and appropriate SENCO and assessment qualifications.
- Strong leadership skills and experience of managing a team.
- Experience of teaching, with a passion for promoting pupil progression, excellence in teaching and learning and experience of monitoring and assessing.
- Excellent communication/interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team/across departments/with external agencies. Ability to relate to staff, parents and pupils.
- Experience of managing budgets/resourcing.
- Strong administration skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to support and uphold the School’s policies.
- Ability and desire to promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
