Junior Dance Course
The aim of the Junior Dance Course is to produce young dancers who have strong technique alongside an understanding of artistry and performance.
Classical ballet is the main focus of the dance course. Pupils also study modern dance, tap dance and have additional classes in pointe work. There are also boys only classes and Pilates while pupils in the Third Form start to learn contemporary dance. The Third Form pupils' training is supplemented by RAD and ISTD modern and tap syllabus classes which are held on Saturdays.
The Young Dancers Show takes place at the end of the Spring Term. This is an opportunity to showcase the technical and artistic skills of our pupils developed during the year. The performances take place, on site, in the school's Markova Theatre. Less formal performances also take place throughout the year.
Tring Park has a long association with English National Ballet Company and has been supplying young dancers for many of their productions and annually they perform Nutcracker at the London Coliseum.
The assessment system is very important on the Junior Dance Course. It is a formal assessment procedure in Classical Ballet, and modern dance that takes place twice a year. In the junior school we adopt a colour coded assessment marking procedure. We feel strongly that this helps pupils identify their strengths and also areas that require further thought and study.
